Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has formally consulted the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, over his intention to seek re-election in 2027, in a move underscoring growing political alignment among key stakeholders in the state.
During the consultation visit on Monday night, Governor Eno expressed appreciation for Akpabio’s continued support for Akwa Ibom’s development, describing the meeting as both symbolic and strategic ahead of the next electoral cycle.
“We came to appreciate you for standing by the interest of Akwa Ibom State and to formally seek your blessings as we look ahead to 2027,” the governor said.
Eno emphasized the importance of unity among political leaders, noting that collective commitment to the state’s progress must transcend individual interests. He assured the Senate President of Akwa Ibom’s readiness to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term, alongside backing Akpabio’s continued leadership in the Senate and his own governorship bid.
The Director-General of Campaigns, Chief Assam Assam (SAN), described the governor as a dedicated and compassionate leader, while praising Akpabio’s national stature and contributions to the state.
In separate goodwill messages, senators Effiong Bob and Emmanuel Ibok Essien commended the strengthening relationship between the governor and the Senate President, describing the emerging political cohesion as unprecedented in the state’s history.
Also speaking, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem lauded both leaders for fostering inclusiveness and peace, noting that Governor Eno’s ARISE Agenda reflects a commitment to grassroots development and social welfare.
The State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Obong Stephen Ntukekpo, praised Akpabio for encouraging party members to support the governor, whom he described as a leader driven by humility and genuine concern for the people.
Responding, Senate President Akpabio thanked Governor Eno and his delegation for the visit and expressed condolences over the recent loss of the governor’s wife.
He described Eno as “humility personified,” recalling their longstanding relationship, and commended his efforts in promoting unity across political divides in the state.
Akpabio assured the governor of his support ahead of the 2027 elections and called on stakeholders to work towards securing strong electoral support for President Tinubu, noting that closer collaboration with the Federal Government would benefit the state.
The governor’s delegation included Deputy Governor Akon Eyakenyi; Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Udeme Otong; Secretary to the State Government, Enobong Uwah; and several political leaders and commissioners.
