President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to the objectives, promises and manifesto of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing himself as an “errand man” of the ruling party as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.
The President made the pledge on Wednesday during the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he charged party leaders and members to remain committed to the party’s vision and electoral objectives.
Addressing the gathering, Tinubu assured the party leadership of his determination to honour the promises made to Nigerians and ensure that his administration remained faithful to the APC manifesto.
“To me, I am your errand man. Even for the president, I raise my hand for full commitment that we abide by my promises and the manifestos, the objective, the intention of our party. That’s all I give you,” he said.
The President commended the APC leadership and members for successfully conducting party congresses and electing leaders at the ward, local government, state and national levels, despite predictions that the exercise could trigger an internal crisis.
Tinubu recalled that the party’s 15th National Executive Committee meeting, held on December 19, 2025, ratified the programme for the congresses, expressing satisfaction that the process was completed without the anticipated breakdown of party unity.
“We conducted it. They said there would be implosion. We passed through it. We did not fail. You did not let us down,” the President said.
He praised party members for their participation and commitment, declaring that the APC had emerged from the internal processes stronger, more united and better positioned for the next electoral contest.
According to him, the Presidential Campaign Council would play a critical role in communicating the administration’s achievements, vision and policy agenda to Nigerians across the country.
“This council will carry our vision, our record and our agenda to every Nigerian, and it will carry them to every ward of this country. We arrive at this moment strong, united and renewed,” he said.
TINUBU CHARGES APC LEADERS TO DELIVER THEIR WARDS
The President urged members of the Presidential Campaign Council to intensify grassroots mobilisation and ensure that their respective wards deliver the votes required for the APC to secure victory in the 2027 general elections.
He explained that the inauguration of the council was not merely a political ceremony but a renewal of the party’s commitment to Nigerians and the responsibility entrusted to it as the country’s governing party.
“The APC is ready. We have not gathered merely to inaugurate a council; we have gathered to renew a covenant, a covenant with the Nigerian people and the historic responsibility they have entrusted to us as Nigeria’s governing party. We promise we will not let them down,” Tinubu stated.
While appreciating party members for their support during the 2023 presidential election, the President stressed that their loyalty and commitment must translate into electoral success in 2027.
He warned that campaign officials would only earn the party’s appreciation after delivering victory at the polls.
“But no one gets credit for an incomplete assignment. So, until you deliver the next election, until you deliver your wards, until you deliver the votes, before we can say thank you,” he said.
Tinubu’s remarks underscored the importance of ward-level mobilisation and coordination in the APC’s preparations for the forthcoming general elections.
GOVERNANCE WILL NOT SUFFER, PRESIDENT ASSURES
The President also made it clear that campaign activities would not distract him from his constitutional responsibilities, insisting that governance must continue uninterrupted throughout the electioneering period.
He disclosed that some party leaders had advised him against allowing the demands of political campaigns to interfere with the business of governing the country, adding that he agreed with their position.
Tinubu explained that while members of the Presidential Campaign Council would coordinate campaign activities across states and local government areas, he would continue to address Nigerians directly and devote attention to national issues.
“Nigeria needs more attention now than ever before. The responsibility of this office does not pause,” he said.
He added: “However, I will still make time to speak directly with Nigerians even as you lead the campaign in the states and local government areas, so you will excuse me from going everywhere with you.”
The President’s position indicates that the APC’s campaign strategy will rely substantially on the coordination of party structures across the country, while the President continues to discharge his official duties.
Tinubu, who won the 2023 presidential election on the APC platform, is seeking a second term in office in the 2027 general election.
With the inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Council, the ruling party is expected to strengthen its nationwide mobilisation efforts, promote its policy agenda and rally supporters ahead of the next presidential contest.
