Gunmen have kidnapped the Paramount Ruler of Mbo Local Government Area (LGA) of Akwa Ibom state, HRM Ogwong Okon A. Abang at his palace in Ebughu. Though the abductors are yet to contact the family of the victim for a possible ransom, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of the monarch. The Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) disbursed a total of N1,149.816 trillion which came in as revenue in January 2024 to the federal government, states, and local government areas. The allocation, shared during the May 2024 FAAC meeting comprised distributable statutory revenue of N284.716 billion, distributable Value Added Tax (VAT) revenue of N466.457 billion, electronic money transfer levy revenue of N18.024 billion, and exchange difference revenue of N438.884 billion. The founder of Stanbic IBTC and ANAP Foundation, Atedo Peterside, says the urgency with which the President Bola Tinubu-led administration wants the naira to appreciate against the dollar and other foreign currencies is not the best approach to return the currency to a stronger position. Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has decried the substantial debt burden inherited from the previous administration of Nyesom Wike, saying most of the projects commissioned in the state were not fully funded. Governor Fubara stated this during the commissioning of the Aleto-Ogale-Ebubu-Eteo Road, also known as Old Bori Road in Eleme Local Government Area of the state.
