2027: I’d Have Declined If Tinubu Offered Me Campaign DG — Wike

ABUJA — Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he would have declined the position of director-general of the campaign council for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid if the President had offered it to him.
Wike made the disclosure against the backdrop of the recent constitution of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The former Rivers State governor explained that he was not interested in serving as campaign director-general, stressing that his commitment to supporting Tinubu’s re-election was not dependent on holding a particular position within the campaign structure.
According to Wike, political support should be based on conviction and commitment rather than the pursuit of appointments or personal benefits.
He, however, reaffirmed his support for President Tinubu and pledged that the emerging “rainbow coalition” would be fully activated to mobilise support for the President ahead of the 2027 election.
Wike said members of the coalition would work in their various capacities to ensure that the President secures another mandate to continue implementing his administration’s policies and programmes.
His position further underscores the political realignment taking place ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with political actors across party lines positioning themselves for the contest.
The FCT minister has remained one of the prominent figures associated with the political coalition backing President Tinubu, despite his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Wike’s declaration is expected to generate further debate within political circles as preparations intensify for the 2027 presidential election.
