A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma to stop presenting himself as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District election scheduled for January 16, 2027.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu issued the order on Thursday after ruling that Uzodimma did not win the APC senatorial primary election conducted on May 18 and monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In his judgment, Justice Egwuatu held that evidence presented before the court established that former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha secured the majority of votes cast during the primary election.
The court consequently declared Okorocha the winner of the APC primary for the Imo West Senatorial District.
Justice Egwuatu further ordered the APC to submit Okorocha’s name as its candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections.
The ruling represents a significant development in the political contest over the APC’s senatorial ticket for Imo West, with the court’s decision addressing the outcome of the party’s primary election.
The January 16, 2027, senatorial election is expected to determine who will represent the district in the Senate.
