Council Boss Fulfills Campaign Promise, Ends Years of Power Outage in Umume Community

The Executive Chairman of Urueoffong Oruko Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. (Chief Amb.) Uno Etim Uno, has commissioned and handed over a 300KVA electricity transformer to the people of Umume Village, Ward 2, fulfilling a major campaign promise and ending years of power outage in the community.
The commissioning ceremony, held at the transformer site in Umume, came shortly after the chairman was honoured in Abuja with the “Iconic Best Chairman of the Year” Award, drawing dignitaries, political leaders, community stakeholders, and jubilant residents.
“He Who Brings Light, Brings Life”
Setting the tone for the event, Elder Charles Emene, Supervisor for Information, described electricity as “the light that brings life and development to a community,” commending the chairman for his proactive and people-oriented leadership.
In her welcome address, Hon. Eno John, Councillor representing Ward 2, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the chairman for fulfilling his promise. She recalled that Umume had been in darkness for over two years and hailed Chief Uno as “the father of light.” She pledged continued grassroots support for him and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Community Voices of Appreciation
Goodwill messages flowed from excited villagers.
The Youth President of Umume, Ulap Godwin Effiong, praised the chairman’s intervention, describing him as “Offong Unwana” — the bringer of light. He noted that the restoration of electricity had reduced crime in the area and assured the council boss that the youths would protect the transformer from vandalism.
The Women Leader of the village expressed her joy through a traditional song of gratitude, thanking the chairman for his compassion and generosity.
The Village Head, Chief Edet John, overwhelmed with joy, presented traditional gifts — including a goat, drinks, and plantains — to the chairman, praying for his continued success and protection.
Stakeholders Commend Chairman’s Performance
Prominent stakeholders also lauded Chief Uno’s developmental strides.
Barr. Effiong Oboho, former APC candidate for the State House of Assembly, likened the chairman’s efforts to a man who bought the first car in his family — “a source of pride and progress for all.” He prayed for divine strength for the chairman and his team.
Chief Edet Isong, former Transition Committee Chairman, described the project as a reflection of genuine service.
“I am very happy with what the chairman is doing. In fact, this is the first council event I’ve attended since leaving office about 13 years ago. The chairman is doing well and following the Arise Agenda of Governor Umo Eno,” he said.
He urged the youths to guard the transformer jealously as a community asset.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Chief Emmanuel Isong, Personal Assistant to the Governor, expressed gratitude to God for fair weather and praised Chief Uno for his consistency in project delivery. He likened the people of Umume to the biblical ten lepers, commending them for returning to show appreciation.
Chairman Uno Reaffirms Commitment to Grassroots Development
In his address, Chief Uno — fresh from his national recognition as Best Chairman of the Year — reaffirmed his dedication to grassroots transformation.
“I am not a boss but a chief servant. My joy is in serving my people,” he said.
The chairman explained that the transformer project originated from a needs assessment conducted before he assumed office and assured other communities that similar projects would soon reach them.
Chief Uno also called for continued support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Umo Eno, Ph.D, and the APC, stressing unity, patience, and collective effort toward sustainable development.

The ceremony climaxed with prayers, traditional dances, and jubilation as the newly installed transformer was officially energized — lighting up Umume once again.
