In a proactive measure to enhance user safety, TikTok has taken down more than 2.1 million videos in Nigeria for breaching its community guidelines during the second quarter of 2024.
This substantial removal underscores the platform’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a secure online space.
The recently released Community Guidelines Enforcement Report highlights that these removals represent less than 1% of all videos uploaded in Nigeria during this timeframe.
“We strive to provide a safe environment for our users,” the report emphasized. “Notably, 99.1% of these videos were removed before any reports were made by users, with 90.7% taken down within just 24 hours.”
On a global scale, TikTok reported a staggering 178 million video removals in June 2024, with automated systems facilitating 144 million of those actions.
“Our proactive detection rate has reached 98.2% globally, enabling us to effectively address harmful content before it reaches our users,” the company stated.
TikTok is owned by ByteDance, a multinational company founded by Chinese entrepreneurs. Its ownership structure includes 60% held by global institutional investors, with 20% each allocated to its founders and employees.
