Port Harcourt, Rivers State — The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) continued its week-long 25th anniversary celebration with a vibrant display of indigenous arts, cultural expression, and regional unity during its spectacular Arts and Culture Day held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The event, themed “Telling Our Story: From Transaction to Transformation”, began with a colourful procession from the Port Harcourt Polo Club to the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Elekahia, where the rich cultural heritage of the Nine Mandate States of the Niger Delta came alive in a stunning showcase.
Among the dignitaries present was Sir Victor Antai, KJW, the Executive Director, Projects, NDDC, who played a key role in the celebration. Addressing the crowd, Sir Victor Antai highlighted the significance of the occasion, stating:
“This is more than a cultural festival. It is a reaffirmation of our identity, a celebration of our unity, and a testament to how far we have come as a people. As we mark 25 years of impact, we honour not just projects, but the proud spirit of the Niger Delta.”
The day featured an energetic Health and Fitness Walk, symbolizing collective vitality and the strength of unity, as participants from all walks of life including NDDC staff, traditional leaders, youth groups, and cultural troupes joined in the walk and festivities.
At the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, the crowd was treated to breathtaking artistic performances, traditional dances, dramatic displays, and colorful exhibitions. Each of the Nine Mandate States brought its distinct culture to the fore, weaving together a beautiful tapestry of the region’s shared heritage.
Free and open to the public, the event drew thousands of attendees who described it as “unforgettable,” “powerful,” and “deeply symbolic.” The NDDC once again reaffirmed its vision of transformation through unity, culture, and community engagement.
As the Commission celebrates 25 years of remarkable progress and service, the Arts and Culture Day stands as a beacon of pride and a reminder that development is not just about infrastructure, it’s about preserving the soul of a people.
