Congratulations to Prof. Christopher Nyong Ekong


The Management and Staff of Newsday Newspaper heartily congratulate Professor Christopher Nyong Ekong on his election as the next Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo.

A distinguished academic, accomplished economist and seasoned public administrator, Prof. Ekong—fondly known as “Hotrico”—has long exemplified excellence, integrity and dedicated service. His emergence as Vice Chancellor stands as a testament to his outstanding contributions to scholarship and public service.

Prof. Ekong, a native of Offot Ukwa Clan in Uyo Local Government Area, will assume office in December 2025, succeeding the incumbent Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nyaudo Ndaeyo. His leadership experience, including his service as Commissioner for Economic Development and Commissioner for Youth and Sports in the Akwa Ibom State Executive Council, has consistently demonstrated vision, competence and commitment to societal development.

Within the University of Uyo community, Prof. Ekong is celebrated for his impactful academic career and longstanding dedication to nurturing future generations. His elevation to the institution’s highest office is widely regarded as a well-deserved honour.
