The administration of Umo Bassey Eno, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, has in its first term demonstrated a remarkable level of commitment to the development and prosperity of the state. From infrastructure expansion to economic empowerment and tourism promotion, the governor’s performance has been widely acknowledged as exceeding expectations. In many respects, his administration can confidently be rated above 80 percent performance, considering the numerous impactful projects and people-centered policies already delivered.

Since assuming office in 2023, Governor Eno has focused strongly on the ARISE Agenda, a development blueprint aimed at economic growth, rural development, and social welfare. Through this agenda, the government has invested significantly in road construction and rural infrastructure, improving access to communities that had previously suffered neglect. Many rural roads and internal city roads are being constructed or rehabilitated, making transportation easier for farmers, traders, and residents across the state.

The governor has also shown exceptional commitment to agriculture and food security. Farmers have been supported with grants, training programs, and improved access to farming inputs. These initiatives are helping to boost local food production while also creating employment opportunities for young people in rural communities.

In the area of entrepreneurship and youth empowerment, the administration has provided financial support and training for small and medium-scale businesses. Many young entrepreneurs have received grants and equipment to start or expand their businesses. This approach not only encourages innovation but also strengthens the local economy.

Another remarkable achievement of Governor Eno’s administration is the revitalization of tourism and cultural promotion. Events such as Christmas festivals and cultural tourism initiatives have placed Akwa Ibom on the national and international map as a destination for entertainment and hospitality. These initiatives have attracted visitors, stimulated local businesses, and strengthened the state’s reputation as a peaceful and welcoming environment.

Importantly, the governor has maintained regular payment of salaries to civil servants and has also taken commendable steps toward the payment of gratuities and benefits to retired civil servants, demonstrating respect and appreciation for those who dedicated their years of service to the state.

Governor Eno’s administration is also notable for its harmonious working relationship with the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi Phd. Their cooperation and mutual respect have contributed to stability in governance and effective coordination in implementing government policies and programs across the state.

In the area of party politics, Governor Eno has also demonstrated remarkable leadership and maturity. Under his watch, there has been peace and unity within the party, with properly conducted congresses and internal processes. For the first time in many years, the party in the state is operating without factional divisions or what was often referred to as an “Abuja front.” His leadership style has promoted dialogue, reconciliation, and cooperation among party stakeholders. This clearly shows that Governor Umo Eno is a true man of peace who prioritizes unity and stability above personal or political interests.

The government has equally invested in education and healthcare, ensuring that public institutions receive improved support and facilities. Efforts to upgrade schools, provide scholarships, and strengthen healthcare services demonstrate a clear commitment to human capital development.

Beyond infrastructure and social programs, Governor Eno has also been widely praised for his inclusive leadership style. His administration has consistently emphasized unity, transparency, and collaboration with stakeholders across the state. This approach has helped maintain peace and stability, which are essential for sustainable development.

Looking ahead, it is clear that the governor’s vision for Akwa Ibom is far greater than what has already been achieved. If given the opportunity for a second term, there is strong confidence among many citizens that his administration will consolidate these achievements and transform the state into a model of economic prosperity and modern development. With sustained investment in infrastructure, tourism, agriculture, and human capital, Akwa Ibom has the potential to become the “Dubai of Africa.”

Governor Umo Eno has laid a solid foundation in his first term. The progress already recorded gives hope that the future of Akwa Ibom will be even brighter if continuity and support are maintained.
