As part of measures to promote gender inclusivity in policymaking and economic empowerment, a Non Governmental Organization, Trueneed Stage Empowerment Foundation is urging women to take rightful position in different spheres of life.
The Founder of Trueeneed Stage Empowerment Foundation, Dr Femi Olasupo made the disclosure at a Stage Foundation Advocacy Program and training for women in Abuja.
He urged women to be actively involved in politics, economics, business, education, and different sectors of the economy.
“There is a need for women to break free from religious, cultural, and societal norms that confine them to the sidelines.
The appeal is for women to realize their full potential and actively participate in shaping the policies and decisions that impact their lives and communities,” he said.
In the same vein, he urged women to take the lead and not be laid back in life.
“We want to see women taking leadership role, as empowering a woman is tantamount to empowering an entire nation. We want their voices to be heard, and not be relegated in the society”, he noted.
Dr Olasupo also encouraged women to stay focus and be determined in their chosen field of work.
“The appeal is just for them to look inward and know that there is nothing that they actually want to do that that is not achievable. They need to be diligent and consistent to get to the top”, he said.
The Executive Director Advocacy for Women with Disabilities, Mrs Patience Okolo Dickson noted that government and CSOs need to collaborate and support women living with disabilities.
” Women need to be empowered so as to live an impactful life, especially those living with disabilities.They need to be trained to have self confidence in their belief that all will turn out well”, she said.
Dickson also called for inclusion of women living with disabilities for employment purposes.
” We are seeking for more employment slots for women living with disabilities.
We want at least five percent slots from government agencies”, she added.
The Executive Chairman of Betterways Nigeria Limited, Dr Oshadare Victor, emphasized the importance of women being self-reliant to contribute meaningfully to national development.
“Let us rally together to empower women to unleash their full potential and make significant contribution to building a better Nigeria.When you empower a woman you are impacting a community and the nation at large”.
He called for laudable initiatives that will promote gender equality and economic independence for women in society.
The Co-founder, INEMO Foundation, Mrs Sophia Adeosun, disclosed that government should provide necessary funding and training opportunities for women living in the grass root.
She said the Advocacy Program is meant to promote inclusivity among women from diverse backgrounds, including those living with disabilities.
“After this training, our goal is for women to not only benefit personally but to also become agents of change within their communities.
We want them to share their knowledge and experiences to inspire others, transcending barriers imposed by religion or societal norms”, Adeosun explained.
