Save The Children International Nigeria is working with the Borno State Government and Federal Ministry of Health to provide humanitarian aid to flood-affected individuals.
Duncan Harvey, Country Director of Save The Children International Nigeria, stated this while speaking with Journalists in Abuja.
He said the organization is collaborating with international groups to ensure children receive necessary nutrition and healthcare.
The Country Director said the Borno State Government Emergency Operations Centre has registered at least 26 relocation sites, as of 14th September .
“The sheer number of people displaced are much and there are 300,000 people displaced in the camps. We are ensuring provision of food, education and health to displaced residents.
“There are 26 camps and we are ensuring that the people are seeing the impact of our work in every area”, he said.
In the same vein, he noted that the Child Rights body is currently on ground to provide urgent rescue service, life saving response and rehabilitation of affected communities.
“Our urgent response plan to the crisis includes but not limited to Multi purpose Cash Assistance MPCA to the affected households.”
He further added that the impact of flooding on children is much especially on malaria and other diseases.
“We want to ensure that children are protected, and they receive relief and urgent measures “, he said .
Harvey also called on the Borno State Government and the Federal Government to ensure that humanitarian actors are supported, encouraged with enabling approaches and systems that help to speed up the efficiency of lifesaving flood response program for children, families and communities who are in urgent need.
