Governor Umo Eno’s earlier defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) continues to reshape political dynamics in Akwa Ibom State. While the move initially generated mixed reactions, more political leaders are now openly commenting on its impact.
Chief Edet Isong, a senior political stakeholder in the state, has praised the governor’s action, describing it as “a good and timely decision taken with integrity and foresight.” He noted that the governor joined the APC after carefully weighing the political realities surrounding the state and the wider national environment.
Chief Isong further claimed that the governor’s defection has weakened the influence of the PDP in Akwa Ibom, saying the once-dominant party is now “reduced to children’s play games.”
He added that, in his view, the political momentum generated by the governor’s move could give him a significant advantage in the future. According to him, “the second-term bid of Governor Umo Eno in 2027 would be a walkover without any serious opposition.”
These statements represent Chief Isong’s personal opinion and interpretation of the evolving political climate.
Observers acknowledge that since Governor Eno joined the APC, a number of former PDP members have followed him, contributing to what analysts describe as an ongoing realignment in the state. The governor’s inclusive posture, reflected in the message “APC Akwa Ibom United,” has also featured prominently at public engagements.
His administration continues to operate under the framework of the ARISE Agenda, which remains the basis for his developmental policies.
