Uyo, Nigeria — Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has confirmed that the Victor Attah International Airport is ready to commence international flight operations, a development described as a major milestone in the state’s aviation sector.

Governor Eno made the disclosure after inspecting facilities at the airport, expressing satisfaction with the level of preparedness and the progress made toward achieving international operational standards.

According to him, the airport is set to witness its maiden international flight to Kotoka International Airport, following recent upgrades and the attainment of international status.

“From what you have seen, you can see me all smiling. Today is another day I feel very proud to be an Akwa Ibomite,” the governor said.

“With what I have seen on ground, the pace of work, I have to thank the contractor, Messrs VKS. I have to thank the committee that was set up two months ago by myself and the Honourable Minister to get this started. I think we are good to go. We look forward to that maiden flight tomorrow, by God’s grace.”

Governor Eno explained that the achievement was the result of sustained investments in infrastructure, safety systems, and passenger handling facilities, all aimed at positioning the airport as a regional hub for air travel, tourism, and commerce.

He noted that the initiative aligns with his administration’s broader vision of strengthening connectivity and driving economic growth across the state.

The governor further assured that all regulatory requirements have been met, with security, customs, and immigration services fully operational ahead of the inaugural international service.

He commended the efforts of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, as well as the implementation committee and other stakeholders for their roles in actualising the project.

The maiden trip to Accra is expected to create new opportunities for trade, tourism, and bilateral engagement, while further strengthening ties between Nigeria and Ghana.

Industry stakeholders have described the development as a significant step forward in Akwa Ibom State’s economic advancement and a strategic boost to its long-term competitiveness in regional aviation.
