Chief Edet Isong, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State and Founder of the Credence Group for Governor Umo Eno 2027, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to stop interfering with the administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Chief Isong urged political actors in Rivers State to embrace peace and stability, warning that persistent political tension could undermine governance and development in the state.
He commended the Nigeria Governors’ Forum for what he described as their timely support and solidarity with Governor Fubara during the political crisis in the state.
“I sincerely thank the Governors’ Forum for standing by Governor Fubara. Their support has helped to stabilise Rivers State and strengthen democratic governance,” he said.
Chief Isong noted that Rivers State had historically been a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) stronghold, but said recent political developments had changed the political direction of the state.
“Rivers State was a PDP state, but today, by the grace of God and the leadership of Governor Fubara, Rivers State is now an APC state,” Chief Isong declared.
The APC chieftain advised Minister Wike, who served as Governor of Rivers State for eight years, to now act as a statesman by promoting peace rather than political confrontation.
“Minister Wike has served Rivers State for eight years as governor. He should go and resolve the problems in his own party and allow peace to reign. He should leave the APC alone,” he stated.
He also cautioned members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to learn from their six-month suspension, urging them to embrace dialogue, restraint, and respect for democratic principles.
Chief Isong further emphasized that Minister Wike is not a member of the APC, and therefore should desist from actions capable of creating tension or internal division within the party in Rivers State.
He concluded by calling on all stakeholders to put the interest of the people first and allow Governor Fubara and his Deputy to carry out their constitutional responsibilities without intimidation or undue political pressure.
