Dissolves Six State Excos, Ratifies Abdulrahman as Acting National Chairman
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Executive Committee (NEC) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced the expulsion of several top party leaders, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, and Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal.
Others expelled include former Board of Trustees Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara, former Deputy National Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja, former Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel, former PDP Deputy National Chairman Chief Bode George, and other senior party figures.
The resolutions were reached during the faction’s 103rd NEC meeting held on Tuesday at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja.
Dissolution of Six State Excos
The factional NEC also dissolved the State Executive Committees in Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos and Ekiti States, directing the National Working Committee (NWC) to immediately appoint caretaker committees and commence fresh congresses.
Similarly, the Bayelsa State Exco was dissolved, with its caretaker committee led by George Turnah ratified, while the Edo State Exco under Barr. Nosa Ogieva-Okunbor was approved.
‘Anti-party activities, violation of court orders’ — Abdulrahman
The expulsion memo, submitted by the factional acting National Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman, alleged that those affected violated subsisting court orders, participated in an unauthorized convention, and engaged in actions that triggered confusion, factionalisation, and defections within the party.
Communiqué Highlights
The communiqué, read by National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu and posted by Wike’s aide Lere Olayinka, said the NEC met to uphold “truth, justice, discipline, and respect for the rule of law.”
Key resolutions include:
- Disciplinary actions against Adolphus Wabara, Olabode George, Ben Obi, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), Bala Mohammed, Seyi Makinde, Dauda Lawal, Taofeek Arapaja, Setonji Koshoedo, Okechukwu Obiechina Daniel, Woyengikuro Daniel, Mohammed Kadade Suleiman, Emmanuel Ogidi, Sumaila Adamu Burga, Umar Sani, Udom Emmanuel, and Emmanuel Enoidem, among others.
- Directive to Chief Ali Odefa to refund all salaries and allowances earned after his expulsion on 12 December 2024.
- Ratification of Hon. Chidiebere Egwu Goodluck as Acting National Vice Chairman (South East).
- Deputies of expelled NWC members to assume acting leadership positions immediately.
- Formal ratification of Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman as Acting National Chairman.
- Instruction to the party’s legal team to initiate constitutional processes to recover seats of all defected elected officials, in line with Sections 68(1)(g) and 109(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution.
- Approval of a nationwide reconciliation initiative, as well as a membership audit and revalidation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
‘The era of indiscipline is over’
According to the communiqué, the decisions were taken to preserve order and restore discipline within the party.
“The NEC affirms that the era of indiscipline is over. With unity, discipline, and renewed purpose, the PDP will stabilise and emerge stronger,” the statement read.
