President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo on his re-election as Governor of Anambra State, describing his victory as a testament to visionary and result-oriented leadership.
Governor Soludo, candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), was declared winner of the Anambra governorship election after recording a landslide victory across all 21 local government areas of the state.
According to results announced by the State Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof. Omoregie Edoba, Soludo polled 422,664 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 99,445 votes.
Other candidates in the race included Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) with 37,753 votes, George Moghalu of the Labour Party (LP) with 10,576 votes, John Nwosu of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with 8,208 votes, and Jude Ezenwafor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 1,401 votes.
Soludo’s victory makes him the third governor in Anambra’s political history to win a second term in office.
In a statement personally signed by him, President Tinubu commended Soludo for what he described as disciplined and innovative governance that has brought visible progress to Anambra State.
“Governor Soludo, the Solution, has demonstrated that knowledge is indeed power and that academic principles can be applied in serving the people, undergirding accountability, transparency, and prudent management of resources,” the President said.
Tinubu, who recalled inaugurating some projects executed by the Soludo administration during his visit to Anambra in May, praised the governor’s “discipline, grace, brilliance, and fresh perspective to governance,” adding that under Soludo, Anambra is living up to its motto as “The Light of the Nation.”
The President urged the governor to be magnanimous in victory and to seek the cooperation of his opponents for the continued development of the state.
He also assured Soludo of the Federal Government’s unwavering support and expressed optimism about stronger collaboration between Abuja and Awka.
Tinubu further commended the new INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, and his team for conducting what he described as a credible and transparent election, urging the commission to maintain high standards in future polls to strengthen the country’s democracy.
“The victory of the opposition All Progressives Grand Alliance again demonstrates the vitality of our political system and the fact that victory for any progressive and hardworking leader can hardly be encumbered or denied,” Tinubu added.
