Osogbo – Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has urged peaceful dialogue and constructive diplomacy between Nigeria and the United States in resolving security concerns and strengthening bilateral relations.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor made the appeal following recent threats of military action against Nigeria by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Adeleke emphasized that peace and diplomacy, not confrontation, should define the long-standing partnership between both countries.
“I appeal to the Presidency of the United States to support Nigeria in fully implementing its new national security strategy,” he said.
He explained that the new strategy is comprehensive and capable of addressing banditry, terrorism, and other violent crimes across the country if given international support.
The governor commiserated with the families of victims of terrorist attacks in Northern Nigeria and called on the United States to assist Nigeria through intelligence sharing, capacity building, and logistical support to end terrorism.
Describing Trump’s remarks as a wake-up call, Adeleke said it should inspire Nigeria to strengthen its counterterrorism measures and deepen cooperation with friendly nations.
“A peaceful interface between Abuja and Washington holds the key, rather than military intervention by the American government,” Adeleke stated.
He commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its diplomatic efforts to ease tensions with Washington and address genuine Western concerns.
“This is the time to unite as a nation and support national leadership to tackle threats against our citizens,” he said.
“We need peace, not war, to deepen our democracy and protect our people.”
Adeleke reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to peace and community-driven security approaches, emphasizing that Osun State would continue to promote dialogue and mutual understanding to sustain stability.
