We are working effectively to address premature birth in Nigeria- FG

The  Minister of Health Dr Osagie Ehanire said the federal government is working effectively to address the issue of premature birth in the country.
He said part of the mechanisms include the launching of three new born guidelines documentation.
The Minister made the disclosure  while briefing Journalists and partners on the occasion of  World Premature day 2021 celebration in Abuja.
The Minister also launched  three new born guidelines documentation which are;
The Kangaroo Mother care operational guidelines, the  national guidelines for basic new born, and the  national guidelines for comprehensive newborn care.
Speaking further, the Minister emphasized the need to create and draw attention on awareness about issues associated with premature birth.
 ” There is need  to spread information on the need  to support and help the families affected by providing emotional and psychological guidance to parents with premature babies”.
Save The Children Advocacy campaign and Policy manager Ifedilichukwu Ekene Innocent, said the child rights body
has trained health workers on saving  premature children.
“We appreciate  the Federal Ministry of health and other partners for the launching and commemoration of the World Premature day. The significance of the policy documentation and guidelines training manual cannot but be overemphasized “.
“We are  working with the ministry of health in several areas especially in area of new born and child health. We supported  the recently concluded child health policy with the nutrition department,  where we carried out situation analysis on child health nutrition to truly understand necessary tools on ground.”
The Minister of State for health, Dr Olorunnimbe Mamora said “according to the World Health Organization, 1 out of 10 babies are born prematurely every year.
” Anyone can give birth to premature babies irrespective of the type of  job, where we live, economy status and qualifications.  Premature babies face serious life long health challenges “.
