We are dissatisfied with measures announced by Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 – Emergency and Risk Alert

Emergency  and  Risk Alert, a Non- Governmental Organisation is dissatisfied with the new seven (7) measures announced by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.

The  Executive Director, Olajuyigbe Gbenro, made the disclosure in a statement stating that the measures are ambiguous, fluid and incompetent of generating effective response and measures needed to reduce risk, or mitigate the spreading impact of the Pandemic.

He stated   that after  going through the  new seven (7) measures put in place by the Presidential  Task Force, it is difficult seeing how they respond to immediate needs of the population.

According to him, the response to the scourge must be dynamics, since we have lost opportunity for pro- activeness.

“We strongly believe that if these suggestions are taken serious, it will enhance the resistance of the people residing in Nigeria. It will rejuvenate their confidence in the capacity of Government to effectively respond to the scourge”.

Olajuyigbe   explained that a task-force  should be announced  in the middle of fierce emergency with capacity for escalation and overwhelming the nation.

“We need  to increase  the number of testing Facilities and announcement of their location, and also create a  pool of new human Resources particularly relevant health officers”.

He further added that the Federal Government need to  agree with states on coordination and strategy for seamless collective national -state response.

In the same vein, Olajuyigbe posited that; ‘It is not clear how the suspension of the Federal Executive Council Meeting and the Council of State meeting, the first two of the measures qualified as measures.”

“ They rather typify leadership timidity in the face of disaster. The  action will ‘further induce panic in the population and people who ordinarily should look up to the vibrancy of these bodies in the heat of global disaster that calls for effective national response leadership’.
