Stakeholders in the health sector has emphasized the importance of Exclusive breastfeeding, noting that it is critical to the growth and development of children in their formative years.
They disclosed this at a one-day sensitization meeting with religious, traditional rulers, women and youth leaders in commemoration of the 2022 World breastfeeding week celebration at Kuje Town hall.
Speaking at the event, the representative of the Federal Ministry of Health Hajia Khadijat urged all mothers to practice exclusive breastfeeding.
She stated that constant sensitization will enable parents to understand the importance of breastfeeding both to the mothers and society at large.
“This program is being planned by the ministry of health and other stakeholders in the nutrition sector to sensitize the residents of Kuje community. We appreciate those who are present to make the program a successful exercise. We want to create awareness to Kuje community members on the importance of exclusive breastfeeding”.
Another speaker Mrs Ekwueme spoke on the need for mothers to maintain a good position while breastfeeding babies.
” The mothers need to lie down properly while feeding babies for ease of movement of the food. The baby should be properly latched to the mother as well for effective digestion of food “.
Other dignitaries present at the event include Musa Gado Haruna, the youth leader. The representative of CS-SUNN Mr Ambrose, the FCT primary health care representative, and Hajia Khadijat the representative of the Federal Ministry of Health.
