TRIBUNAL UPDATE: AKPABIO VS EKPENYONG.

At the resumed sitting of the Akwa North West Senatorial District National Assembly Elections petition on June 25, 2019,
a witness, Mr Anietie Ekong, an electronic media practioner testifying with video clip cataloguing the entire scenarios of February 23, 2019 National Assembly elections with particular reference to Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial district election at Independence High School, Ukana, played out the videotape to match and support his testimony accordingly.

Detailing that, the said election took place in a very peaceful ambience and that Senator Godswill Akpabio participated in every aspect that culminated in the successful election at his polling unit, Independence High School, Ukana.

The video screened in the Tribunal showed motion pictures and live actions accompanied with audio in a seven minute compressed form of the five hours election activities coverage in that unit to concretize to the Tribunal that election did not only take place there, but Sen. Godswill Akpabio and the entire people of the area voted in line with the provisions of the electoral act, thus putting to rest the unnecessary diversionary twists (that accreditation did not preceed voting ) which PDP and INEC used in wedging their depositions.

Furthermore, from the video, on February 23, 2019, the day of the election Sen. Godswill Akpabio was seen first, approaching the polling unit at Independence High School in Ukana in the company of his wife and the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji, while acknowledging cheers from his kinsmen, and later went through the processes of accreditation and voting peacefully.

During the cross examination of Sen. Akpabio, the following asseverations were highlighted:

That out of 72, 572 accredited voters, his Party, APC polled a total of 61,329 votes as declared within the jurisdiction of the said election.

That the cancellations and yanking of his votes were done in a different Senatorial district, that is Akwa Ibom North East after realizing he was the winner of the election.

Police situational reports confirming peaceful and credible elections in the area on that date were presented to theTribunal.

That INEC register presented to him in the Tribunal was quite different from the one used in his polling unit for the election that day.

The INEC document shown to him in the Tribunal was completely over doctored, with the number of the units in his ward increased to 22 as against11legally known units, thus rendering figures therein, complicating, unreadable, incomprehensible and unassimilable in its entirety.

The Tribunal adjourned to Monday, July 01, 2019.
