The Acting Board Chair , Stop TB Partnership Nigeria, Dr. Queen Ogbuji- Ladipo has reaffirmed the commitment of stakeholders towards ending TB in Nigeria.
She stated this at the Pre-World TB Day Press Conference put together by Stop TB Partnership for the TB community in Nigeria.
According to her partners will continue to advocate and prioritize prevention and treatment of Tuberculosis.
” TB continues to be a major source of concern, that claims many lives in remote places. We urge everyone to raise voices to this course, to join hands in solidarity and advocate and prioritize prevention and treatment”, she said.
She noted that Tuberculosis continues to be a major public health concern, claiming far too many lives each year, particularly in Nigeria.
“Despite advancements in medicine and healthcare, TB remains a formidable adversary, disproportionately affecting vulnerable populations and underserved communities. However, amidst these challenges, there lies hope in the tireless dedication of healthcare professionals, researchers, policymakers, and advocates who work tirelessly to combat TB and improve the lives of those affected”, Ladipo added.
The Executive Director, of KNCV Nigeria, Dr Bethrand Odume noted that the body is working with NTBLCP and state TB program in 14 supported states to improve TB case detection in Nigeria.
“We are globally recognized center of excellence in TB control and at the forefront of the fight against TB in Nigeria.
We are aligning with NTBLCP’s national strategic plan 2020 – 2025 . We are adopting a mixed model of community and facility-based health systems strengthening strategies”, he said.
The Director of Public Health , Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Chukwuma Anyaike represented by Dr Labaran Shehu , said Tinubu’s administration is passionate about the issues of public health.
“This year’s world TB day is special , in the sense that there is a new government on ground, who are passionate and have a lot of interest on the issues of public health importance, especially diseases like TB, HIV , malaria and many others “.
