The Managing Director of the South-South Development Commission (SSDC), Ms. Usoro Akpabio, on Saturday led a high-powered delegation, alongside the Executive Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Victor Antai, to receive the President of the Senate, His Excellency, Senator (Dr.) Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, on his arrival in Uyo for the Catholic Bishops Conference.
Addressing dignitaries at the Victor Attah International Airport, Ms. Akpabio described the Senate President’s presence as both an honour to Akwa Ibom State and a reaffirmation of his deep respect for the Catholic faith and commitment to promoting moral values in national leadership.
She emphasized that hosting the Catholic Bishops Conference in Akwa Ibom State was a great privilege, and the Senate President’s arrival added prestige and significance to the occasion.
“As indigenes, we are proud to welcome our distinguished leader and son of the soil. The Catholic Bishops Conference is an event of spiritual, cultural, and social importance, and the Senate President’s attendance underscores Akwa Ibom’s central place in national dialogue and faith-based engagements,” Ms. Akpabio stated.
The SSDC boss further assured that the people of Akwa Ibom are fully prepared to ensure the success of the event, while acknowledging the Senate President’s unwavering efforts in advancing unity, peace, and progress across Nigeria.
The Catholic Bishops Conference, which brings together leaders of the Catholic Church from across the country, is expected to deliberate on pressing national issues, the role of the Church in shaping moral values, and its contribution to peace and justice in society.
