Urue Offong/Oruko Local Government Council, under the leadership of the Executive Chairman, Rt. Hon. Chief (Amb.) Uno Etim Uno, JP, on Thursday, September 4, 2025, held its monthly Covenant Service.
The solemn assembly, themed “The Man the King Delights to Honour” (Esther 6:6), drew together political stakeholders, religious leaders, traditional authorities, council officials, security agencies, and community members in a collective atmosphere of worship, reflection, and thanksgiving.
Delivering the homily, Rev. Emmanuel Isangedighi emphasized the eternal value of selflessness, service, and reward. Drawing lessons from Esther 6:6-14, he highlighted how divine recognition is often reserved for those who serve with humility and consistency.
According to him, “Selflessness is a force that breeds growth, peace, and love. A leader must create space for others to rise, because life and service are not always about self but about lifting others.” He challenged council stakeholders and community leaders to embrace generosity, be content, and support those in need, while reminding the congregation that divine reward comes in God’s time.
Rev. Isangedighi further explained that Mordecai’s reward from the king, clothing, a horse, and a ring, symbolized elevation, provision, and responsibility. He urged the Chairman to remain a listening leader, always open to wise counsel, and to continue rewarding excellence in service.
In his remarks, Rt. Hon. Chief (Amb.) Uno Etim Uno expressed profound gratitude to God, the clergy, council members, and the people for sustaining the monthly Covenant Service. He noted that the gathering has become a spiritual pillar for peace, unity, and progress in Urue Offong/Oruko LGA.
“The true King of kings is the Almighty God. While we, as leaders, serve as supervisors, councilors, and administrators, our strength and success come only when we put our trust in Him,” the Chairman said.
The Chairman further appreciated his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Etim Uno, for spearheading the monthly Women’s Prayer Summit and directed that three members of the choir be included in the women empowerment scheme. He commended the Council’s Heads of Departments, the Divisional Police Officer, and religious leaders for their roles in sustaining peace and order.
On empowerment, the Chairman announced plans to send a supplementary budget to the legislature to enable the empowerment of 100 beneficiaries with #1 million each, amounting to #100 million annually. He explained that this initiative aims to raise at least two millionaires per village in the first year, boosting entrepreneurship and discouraging misuse of funds.
The Covenant Service also featured intercessory prayers for: Repentance and renewal of leadership values, Peace, love, and unity among political leaders, legislators, and security agencies, Growth of the Church, traditional institutions, women, and youth, Lasting peace in Urue Offong/Oruko, Akwa Ibom State, and Nigeria, Successful implementation of the ARISE Agenda.
Dignitaries present included: the Wife of the Executive Chairman, Mrs. Elizabeth Etim Uno; the Vice Chairman; the Council Secretary, Mr. Amana Henshaw; the Divisional Police Officer; the Leader and Deputy Leader of Legislature; Councilors; Supervisors; and other key stakeholders.
The service ended with renewed hope, unity, and collective resolve to uphold the spiritual and developmental journey of Urue Offong/Oruko LGA.
