..…Rt. Hon. (Mrs) Precious Selong moves motion for urgent government intervention
The Member representing Urue Offong/Oruko State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Mrs) Precious Selong, has raised a passionate and urgent concern over the deplorable state of infrastructure at Ubodung Community Secondary School, Oruko.
Presenting a motion titled “ALARMING INFRASTRUCTURAL DECAY IN UBODUNG COMMUNITY SECONDARY SCHOOL, ORUKO IN URUE OFFONG/ORUKO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA ” during plenary, the lawmaker cited the dire need for government intervention to save the future of students in the school and to uphold the integrity of the state’s education system.
The motion, brought pursuant to Order 3 Rule 1 of the Standing Orders of the 7th Edition of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, highlights the worrisome condition of classrooms in the school, noting that students are currently compelled to learn in severely dilapidated buildings, some of which are captured in pictorial evidence presented before the House.
Rt. Hon. (Mrs) Selong expressed grave concern that the continuous neglect of the school’s infrastructure poses serious risks to the safety of the students, especially during the rainy season. She warned that if urgent steps are not taken, the situation could result in a collapse of the academic structure in the school, further widening the educational inequality in the state.
While acknowledging the commitment of His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno, to the education advancement component of the ARISE Agenda, she urged the State Government to match intentions with action by directing the relevant agencies to carry out immediate renovations and infrastructural upgrades at Ubodung Community Secondary School, Oruko, as a special intervention.
She emphasized that the quality of education available to the people directly correlates with the socio-economic, cultural, and political development of the state.
The motion received unanimous support from members of the House, who echoed the urgency of the matter and expressed solidarity with the affected students and community.
The House, in its resolution, urged the relevant government agencies to immediately intervene and commence comprehensive renovation of the school’s teaching and learning facilities.
This motion further underscores Rt. Hon. (Mrs) Selong’s commitment to improving education and infrastructure in Urue Offong/Oruko, as well as her dedication to giving voice to the needs of her constituents.
