Road Safety Chief lauds emergence of Akpabio, Tajudeen, as Senate President, Speaker respectively

 Dr Yusuf John Suberu, the Civil Society organisations representative on road safety matters and FCT squadron leader and national coordinator of the road traffic and vehicle inspection officers mayors, has described as a step in the right direction, the election of Senator Godswill Akpabio, as Senate President and Tajudeen Abbas as Speaker house of representatives.
This once again demonstrated respect for experience and federal character representation at this time of national rebirth.
He said the South-South region, remains one of the most valuable forces in Nigerian politics same way the Northwest zone.
“The emergence of the two from both the upper and lower chamber will stabilize the national assembly.”
He called on the two leaders to give road safety initiatives against carnages priority going by the important role of traffic in the lives of the citizen.
“Safety on roads should form part of the cardinal motions and bills of the Senate and House. The sector shared between the Road safety agency and vehicle inspection officers and assisted by volunteer organisations like ours relies on the legislation by the two chambers to achieve goals.
“With the total 109 in the Senate and 360 in the House of Representatives, when attention is given to road safety matters, carnages will reduce on our roads, and death rates will be minimised and casualties averted”, he said.
 He urged the  Senate President and his counterpart in the House of Representatives to further empower their standing committees on road safety matters to collaborate with stakeholders to achieve results.
 ” Globally, no country toys with road safety matters. When mutual understanding between the legislature and players is made, the safety of lives will be the key. As the two leaders set out for their legislative task, it is our expectation that matters of road traffic  will be given priority”, Suberu noted.
