We have read the advertorial on the page 45 of the 22nd March 2018 edition of the Nation newspaper sponsored and directed by the Akwa Ibom state government to impugn and malign the hard earned reputation of His Excellency, Sir Nsima Ekere, the MD of the NDDC. While debunking the deliberate falsehood expressed in the said publication to the effect that Nsima Ekere had a session with Prof. Chris Ekong where a scheme to attack clerics in the state was agreed, we wish to align ourselves with the position by the erudite academic and political tactician that clerics in the state who have abandoned their original callings and made themselves instruments in the hands of politicians are nothing but scammers.
For allowing politicians to drag them into the murky waters of partisan politics, such clerics must have known that they would be addressed and treated as politicians and they now have political opponents like every other politician. So, it’s wrong, misleading and fallacious to address them as father of faith. Their conducts are shameful, condemnable and they are hereby condemned by the youths of the state.
It’s sad, unfortunate and regrettable that the Akwa Ibom state governor has succeeded in using money to reduce some church congregations to his campaign grounds where”men of God” on his payroll have been using their pulpits to blackmail and deceive their members. We must draw a line between the gospel and partisan politics and anyone who was truly called by God must not mix the two. But the so – called clerics have now become campaign managers of political parties and candidates and they feel we can be deceived by their antics. They have failed.
The politicization of the gospel by these political clerics have caused unnecessary tension , division and confusion within the Christian community.
Prof. Chris Ekong didn’t insult anybody. He was saying nothing but the truth as far as the conducts of the so – called men of God are concerned and he has got to be appreciated and encouraged.
Any man of God who doesn’t want to be addressed and treated as politicians must steer clear of partisan politics and concentrate on preaching the gospel and winning souls for God.
Obong Nsima Ekere, being a Christian leader himself, has tremendous respect clerics. He has never insulted nor send anybody to anybody to insult any cleric in the state.
It’s important we use this medium and challenge the governor’s media dogs to be bold enough to use their real names and contacts anytime they want to publish lies against the person of Obong Nsima Ekere and other APC chieftains. Using fake names and addresses is an act of immaturity and irresponsibility. It’s an act of cowardice on their part.
Obong Iniobong John,
