Stakeholders in the education sector has called on youths in the country to be active in political process in the country.
Speaking at a roundtable programme organised by African Centre for Media and Information Literacy AFRICMIL in collaboration with the Institute of Strategic and Development Communication (ISDEVCOM), Nasarawa State University, Keffi and other partners, they advised youth to take part in election process in Nigeria.
The Vice Chancellor who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Liman Saadatu, called on the youths to take the mantle of leadership and stop sitting on the fence during election period.
“We want the youth to be an active player during election process. The right time to act is now, we should deviate from the old ways of doing things. It is high time for the youths to take the mantle of leadership”.
She further encouraged the youth to utilize their time in engaging in meaningful ventures that will add value to their time.
“The youth have to take ownership of their lives and start engaging in meaningful ventures that will move them forward in life. We want them to utilize education in making positive change in the society”.
In the same vein, she urged youth to engage in entrepreneurship so as to explore financial tenancity.
“We want the youth to practice the art of entrepreneurship. Some have to bribe their way to get white collar job, which is not right. We want them to take the country to the next level. Until our youth wake up, then we will experience positive change”.
AFRICMIL Programme Officer, Kola Ogunbiyi said it is essential to build the capacity of the youth so as to play critical role in nation building.
” Our organisation is really concerned about the development of youth and promotion of good values. That is why we put up the program to encourage students to develop interest in political process “.
” We want to develop and build the capacity of our youths so that they will know that the country belong to all the citizen. We want them to have the necessary qualities to be a leader”.
