A former lawmaker and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Segun Saiki, has criticised former governor and current senator, Adams Oshiomhole, over the distribution of grinding machines, motorbikes, sewing machines, and ₦100,000 cash as part of his constituency projects.
Senator Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North Senatorial District, distributed the items on Saturday at his hometown, Iyamho, as part of an empowerment initiative for his constituents.
However, Saiki faulted the gesture, describing it as “hypocritical” and inconsistent with Oshiomhole’s past stance on constituency empowerment. He recalled that the former governor had previously condemned lawmakers for undertaking similar projects during his tenure as governor of Edo State.
“Oshiomhole swallowed what he had vomited by doling out grinding machines, motorbikes, sewing machines, and ₦100,000 as a constituency project,” Saiki said.
“It’s like someone vomiting and swallowing it back. Which constituency project is he doing after two years in the Senate? What can anybody buy with ₦100,000 in today’s economy? Oshiomhole only gave money to people who visited him.”
Saiki further questioned the impact of the senator’s empowerment programme, arguing that the initiative failed to address the real developmental needs of the Edo North constituency.
“After two years in the National Assembly, what major infrastructural or legislative project has Oshiomhole attracted to his senatorial district?” he queried. “This is not empowerment; it’s a political showpiece.”
As of press time, Senator Oshiomhole had yet to respond to the criticisms. Calls and messages sent to his media aide were not immediately returned.
