The gubernatorial candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Senator Bassey Albert Akpan, has inaugurated an Elders Advisory Council for Akwa Ubok Abasi Campaign Council.
While performing the ceremony on Monday, September 19, 2022, the senator popularly known as OBA, said his government will bring into Akwa Ibom a consultative leadership, adding that the failure of most governments stems from lack of adequate consultations.
He urged the elders to support the campaign team with their wealth of experience and wisdom, assuring them that they will not only be working for the campaign but to form a government.
OBA also promised to maintain the elders in the state generally with proper and adequate care throughout his tenor as governor.
The body is headed by Chief Jerry Okpo as chairman, with Abom E. E. Umanah as deputy chairman and Obong (Dr) Nsima Edet as secretary.
The chairman of the Council, Chief Okpo, described the event as the first ever in the history of Akwa Ibom State that a governorship candidate will bring in elders to advise him.
While accepting to serve, he assured the party and the governorship candidate of their unalloyed loyalty.
Earlier, while presenting the elders for the inauguration, the Chairman of the Campaign Council, Sir Emem Akpabio, said the team comprised men and women of high integrity and experience.
He said they have agreed to serve in the advisory council to help deposition Akwa Ibom for a greater tomorrow.
In his vote of thanks, the DG of Campiagns, Pastor Sunny Ibuot, thanked the elders for accepting to serve, adding that Akwa Ibom will soon experience a new dawn with OBA as governor.
