UYO — The Publisher and Chief Executive Officer of Newsday Newspaper, Chief Edet Isong, has extended heartfelt congratulations to Comrade Nsibiet John on his successful emergence as the 13th Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council.
In a congratulatory message issued over the weekend in Uyo, Chief Isong described Comrade John’s victory as well-deserved, noting that it reflects his unwavering dedication to the growth of journalism and his unrelenting advocacy for media professionalism.
“Comrade Nsibiet John’s election is a clear vote of confidence by his colleagues who have followed his trajectory of service, resilience, and leadership in the media sector,” Chief Isong stated. “As someone who has consistently championed the welfare of journalists and ethical journalism, I have no doubt that he will reposition the NUJ for greater relevance and impact.”
Chief Isong commended the peaceful and transparent conduct of the NUJ elections and applauded all participants for demonstrating maturity and unity of purpose. He also appreciated the outgoing executive council for their service and urged them to continue supporting the union’s growth.
Comrade Nsibiet John takes over from Comrade Emos Etuk, who served with distinction and is widely praised for his performance while in office. Under Etuk’s leadership, the union witnessed notable progress in press freedom advocacy, capacity-building for members, and improved welfare across media houses in the state.
Calling on the new leadership to build on the solid foundation laid by his predecessor, the Newsday publisher expressed optimism that Comrade John would lead with integrity and vision, while promoting unity and professional excellence among journalists.
