Japanese Ambassador celebrates independence day in Nigeria

The Japanese Ambassador Mr. Matsunaga Kazuyoshi celebrated Independence Day by enjoying jollof rice, a national dish of Nigeria, made by the Ambassador’s chef!

The Ambassador’s chef paired this dish with a side of dodo, chicken suya, coleslaw and okra soup for a very special eating experience.

Japan has an interesting and unique culture of dining etiquette. When Japanese people eat something, they put their hands together and say “Itadakimasu.”

It literally means “taking lives of animals, fish, and plants”. Japanese people always express their heartfelt gratitude for the sacrifice of living things and hard work of those who have been involved in making the food.

Let’s celebrate the 61st anniversary of Nigeria’s independence with this wonderful meal and say “Itadakimasu”!
