JAMB suspends National Identity Number for 2020 UTME exams

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board have announced the suspension of the National Identity Number as a requirement for writing the 2020 UTME exam.

The Registrar of JAMB, Prof Ishaq Oloyede made the disclosure while briefing Journalist in Abuja.

The Registrar said the suspension was meant to provide more time for the candidates to get the National Identification number.

He further charged candidates writing this UTME exam to adhere strictly with the other procedures and instructions for the registration.

“The decision was based on realities on ground, and also prevent the candidates from passing through unnecessary stress.

It will also address the technical challenges experienced at some centers by the student.”

Speaking further, the JAMB Registrar said the body is fully set to eliminate identity fraud and multiple registrations.

“We would not hesitate to prosecute any candidate that is guilty as we did last year. NIMC has given us the assurance that no one can register twice. Those who did last year are facing the music.”

The Director-General of the National Identity and Management Commission , Engineer Aliyu Aziz said the collaboration is meant to eliminate crimes related to digital identity.

“Government policy on authentication of identity made us to move the day forward. We are improving our digital identification service”.

He further advised parents to enroll their children on time, in order to avoid the late rush.

He added that the commission does not have the resources to register all the candidates within a short period of time.
