In continuation of its third phase of Free Food Distribution Exercise to the poorest and most vulnerable residents across the State under its Food Security Programme, the Akwa Ibom State Government today rolled into the riverine community of Ewang, Mbo LGA with truck-loads of palliatives.

Thousands of beneficiaries eagerly anticipating the arrival of the Food Distribution Team had assembled at the Local Government Council Headquarters as early as 8am.

On arrival, the team led by Honourable Commissioner Princess Emem Ibanga proceeded to distribute bags of staple food items to vulnerable citizens and people with disabilities of all 11 Wards of the Local Government Area.

However, she reminded the gathering that the food distribution was only an interventionist programme billed for the short-term and urged them to return to the farms for sustained food security.

In his welcome remarks, Council Chairman,Hon. Sunday Etim flanked by his Vice and Secretary, thanked Governor Umo Eno for keeping to his promise of alleviating the immediate food worries of vulnerable citizens of the Local Government Area. He assured the Governor of massive support from Mbo LGA in his future endeavors.

On ground to monitor the distribution and also ensure a hitch free exercise was the Special Adviser to the Governor on Cooperatives and Rural Development, Rt. Hon. Alice Ekpenyong, herself an indigene of the area and two time member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

Also present in Mbo for the exercise was the General Manager of the Akwa Ibom State Bulk Purchase Agency, Hon. Unyime Etim, Councillors in the LGA and Ward Personal Assistants to the Governor who have played a pivotal role in receiving food vouchers from the Agency down to the vulnerable in their respective domains.

Beneficiaries who spoke, applauded the Governor for his initiative which they say is timely, thoughtful and soul-lifting.
