…Applauds Acting VC’s Efforts over Law Faculty Accreditation
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has urged graduating students of the Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) to build strong character and embrace personal development as key drivers of success in an increasingly competitive world.
Speaking as Special Guest at the 12th Valedictory/Award Service organised by the Chapel of Praise for the 2024/2025 graduands at the institution’s main campus in Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, the Governor emphasized that while academic excellence is important, it is character, integrity, and purpose that ultimately shape a fulfilling life and career.
“The whole world is defined by service and creativity. Character and commitment will bring you new opportunities for your personal growth,” he said. “You can know all you know—which I encourage—but if you have bad character, everything you know means nothing.”
Governor Eno encouraged the students to maintain an aspirational mindset, constantly seeking creative and impactful ways to apply their knowledge. According to him, many success stories have been built on the foundation of individuals who translated their education into meaningful contributions to society.
As Visitor to the University, the Governor commended the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Otoabasi Akpan, for his exceptional leadership, noting that his efforts had culminated in the recent accreditation of the institution’s Faculty of Law by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
“The University is doing well, and I must congratulate the Acting Vice Chancellor for showing so much excellence in such a short time,” Governor Eno stated. “Today, we have a Faculty of Law that he worked very hard to get accredited. The reward for good work is more work—and we will get there.”
Responding, Prof. Akpan described the Governor’s presence as a moment of immense pride for the university community. He praised Governor Eno for consistently demonstrating commitment to academic excellence and for supporting the growth and development of the institution.
He urged the graduands to be worthy ambassadors of AKSU, reminding them that they have been thoroughly trained and equipped to excel in their various fields.
In a valedictory message on behalf of the graduating class, Emmanuel Justin Jimmy thanked Governor Eno for honouring them with his presence, describing it as a rare privilege.
Also speaking, the Chaplain of the Chapel of Praise, Rev. Otobong Umoren, said the annual valedictory service is a longstanding tradition of gratitude for God’s faithfulness in the lives of the institution’s graduands. She expressed deep appreciation to the Governor for making the 2025 edition especially memorable.
