…International Flights to Resume in Uyo by First Quarter of 2026
Akwa Ibom State has recorded a major breakthrough as the Federal Government has granted full international status to the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo.
The approval was announced on Thursday, November 27, 2025, following a strategic meeting in Abuja between Governor Umo Eno and the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.
With this development, the Victor Attah International Airport now joins the exclusive list of Nigerian airports authorised to operate international flights. The new status positions Akwa Ibom as a growing aviation hub and opens vast opportunities for global connectivity, tourism, business expansion, and foreign investment.
The approval empowers the airport to receive and process international carriers, operate cross-border services, and serve as a direct gateway linking Akwa Ibom to destinations across Africa and the rest of the world. Full international flight operations are expected to commence in the first quarter of 2026.
Governor Umo Eno, whose administration has sustained engagement with relevant federal authorities, described the approval as a significant win for the state. He noted that the development reinforces Akwa Ibom’s rising profile in the aviation sector and reflects his government’s commitment to creating new economic opportunities for citizens, investors, and visitors.
This milestone marks a new chapter in the state’s transportation and economic landscape, further consolidating its position as a strategic player in regional and international aviation.
