Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, has named the Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Anietie Udofia, as Commissioner of the Year 2025, in recognition of his outstanding performance, leadership, and the successful organisation of Christmas Unplugged 2025.
The announcement was made on Thursday, January 2, 2026, at the Governor’s country home.
As part of the recognition, Governor Eno presented ₦20 million to Dr. Udofia as an appreciation gift and also approved ₦100 million for the Christmas Unplugged Committee and organising team.
Governor Eno commended the Commissioner for his dedication, commitment, and effective leadership, noting that the event significantly boosted the state’s cultural and tourism profile and showcased Akwa Ibom as a major destination for cultural festivities.
He further disclosed that a formal award presentation would take place at a forthcoming State Executive Council meeting, on a date to be announced.
Meanwhile, the management and staff of Newsday Newspaper have congratulated Dr. Anietie Udofia on the well-deserved honour. In a congratulatory message, the newspaper described the award as a clear testament to the Commissioner’s visionary leadership, professionalism, and passion for cultural development.
Newsday Newspaper also applauded Dr. Udofia’s role in raising the standard of cultural events in the state through the successful execution of Christmas Unplugged 2025, describing it as a landmark achievement.
The organisation wished the Commissioner continued success in his service to Akwa Ibom State and prayed for greater accomplishments in his future endeavours.
