Foundation launches award on social impact in memory of Innocent Chukwuma

 Impact Investors Foundation (IIF) has announced the launch of the Innocent C. Chukwuma Award for Social impact in memory of the leading champion of development in the civil society and non-profit community.
The Foundation made the disclosure in a statement signed by Thelma Osadebay the Programme Coordinator.
According to her, the award is said to be focused on West Africa-based foundations, non-profits and civil society organisations in the areas of social justice, community organising and sustainable development.
“The world mourned the passing of a strong pioneer, Mr Innocent C. Chukwuma. During his lifetime of service to humanity. Mr Innocent lived a life of impact and touched many lives in different ways. He was a notable activist and advocate for social justice, public safety, and the rule of law. Innocent also played a pioneering role in the advancement of impact investing through the founding of the Impact Investors  Foundation.”
The Programme coordinator said the pilot edition of the award will be held on 1st November 2022 in Lagos, Nigeria.
“The award will be hosted by the Impact Investors Foundation but sponsored through an endowment by his friends, and well-wishers across the world. It will recognise a leading organisation that unlocks social change with identifiable outcomes.”
“It is said that the award will select a winner from various nominees that will be rewarded with a plaque and N1,000,000 to support their continuous work.”
The Project Lead of the Impact Investors Foundation, Etemore Glover, said “We are very pleased to present an endeavour on behalf of someone that has done so much for social impact in Nigeria. Innocent Chukwuma has been a cornerstone in introducing Impact Investing in Nigeria, and we are delighted to continue his legacy by strengthening that ecosystem”.
The Impact Investors Foundation (IIF) is a non-profit organisation founded by a partnership comprising the Ford Foundation, Bank of Industry (BOI), African Capital Alliance (ACA), BusinessDay Media Ltd and Dalberg Advisors. The alliance’s mission is to work with other stakeholders to reduce the barriers to Impact Investing in Nigeria so that more investors can be brought on board in finding solutions to the country’s major socio-economic and development problems.
