DRTS to arraign traffic offender accosted by FCT Minister’s escort



The FCT Directorate of road traffic services (DRTS) is to arraign one AbdulWahab Ahmed  Alhaji Tanko, with vehicle registration number RBC 562PX apprehended by the FCT Minister’s convoy at Life camp, when the Minister stopped over to observe traffic compliance by motorists.

The offender drove against a traffic light that showed red and was blocked and arrested by the FCT Minister convoy in the presence of the Minister.

The Director of DRTS, Wadata Aliyu Dogo Bodinga emphasized that the offender will undergo emotional evaluation from a government-owned hospital within the FCT, two weeks of compulsory lectures, an inspection of the vehicle, and also appear before the mobile court for prosecution.

The Director warned motorists against violating traffic regulations like beating traffic lights, passing one way, and driving on zebra crossings failure of which shall attract penalties ranging from arraignment, prosecution, and heavy fines.

“We are assuring the FCT residents of the readiness of the Minister to inculcate the culture of adherence to traffic rules by motorists within the federal capital territory in line with international best practices.”

The FCT Minister Musa Muhammed Bello, has taken traffic rules observation in order to save lives, reduce carnages on the roads and also protect pedestrians. He assured FCT residents of the zeal of the Honourable Minister to make fct a complete traffic updated city.

The DRTS director reiterated that since the formal launch of an aggressive campaign against traffic violation by the FCT Minister, there has been a tremendous improvement on observation of traffic lights, adherence to the use of one way, possession of safety gadgets like C-caution, fire extinguisher, roadworthy tyres, valid vehicle papers, driver’s license, and others.

This feat according to the director was made possible as a result of the intensive campaign embarked upon by the FCTA through the effort of the minister. The routine patrol by riders of DRTS and other patrol teams has also yielded results. So far, the eagle eye of DRTS operatives is gathering momentum.

Other strategies are underway to enhance surveillance and traffic intelligence gathering. He implored the FCT motorists to cooperate with the DRTS in order to curb traffic menaces.
