Cooperation and mutual respect among us will unite Oro – Chief Afiakurue

A renowned Oro elder, Sir Effiong Afiakurue, KJW has called on Oro people, no matter their age and level of exposure, to be humble and cooperative so as to work together for peaceful coexistence and development among them.

Ikpoto Afiakurue, on Tuesday night, was a guest in an AKBC Radio programme, Àñwàñ Ïdït Òrò, together with Prince Kpongete Isong. Speaking in Òrò language, they both insisted that only mutual respect among all sections of the people would result in growth.

Chief Afiakurue advised the youths to imbibe the traditional African culture of humility, respect for the elderly and remain studious, so as to gain the moral support to attain their destinies.

“We need peace, understanding among Oro people. We’ve achieved it in Oron Union. We will achieve it among the royal fathers. We will achieve it among the various groups in Oro and this will surely bring progress and togetherness in Oro”, Ikpoto Afiakurue had said.

He pointed out that “politicians must be accountable and use their offices to bring changr to Oro”, saying that “the essence of any appointment was to create an avenue for community building.”

The duo of Effiong Afiakurue and K. O. Isong who enjoined the people to eschew destructive and confrontational attitude, reiterated that only an atmosphere of peace can elevate a people.

Sir Afiakurue revealed that his recognition by the Ritman University was the first step towards a joint effort in establishing institutions of higher learning in Oro land.

He called on Oro people from all walks of life to celebrate with him during his investiture with honorary doctorate degree (Honoris Causa) in Business Administration on Saturday, November 30 at the Ritman University in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State. 

Reception for the event is billed for Vimpy Events Centre, 10 Udo Udoma Avenue, Opposite Dakkada Secretariat, Uyo.
