Abuja, Nigeria – Veteran community leader and social commentator, Chief Isong, has called on journalists and media personalities to uphold professionalism and respect in their public engagements, particularly when addressing government officials and other public figures.
Chief Isong made the remark while reacting to a recent public exchange involving broadcast journalist Rufai Oseni and an honorable minister. He noted that while journalists play a critical role in holding leaders accountable, such duties should be carried out with courtesy and objectivity.
“Rufai Oseni is a brilliant journalist, but we must remember that age and office deserve respect,” Chief Isong stated. “Our media professionals should always balance assertiveness with respect — that’s the mark of true journalism.”
He further emphasized that mutual respect between the media and public officers fosters healthy democratic dialogue and strengthens the nation’s institutions.
Chief Isong urged journalists to remain committed to the ethics of their profession — fairness, accuracy, and decorum — while continuing to champion transparency and accountability in governance.
