Chad’s newly re-elected President, IdrisDeby, has died of injuries suffered on the frontline in the Sahel country’s North.
An army spokesman, General Azem Bermandoa Agouna, said he sustained the injuries when he went to visit soldiers battling rebels.
The 68 year old son of a herder was one of the longest serving leaders in Africa.
The Army spokesman noted that Deby, who died at the age of 68 years breathed his last defending the nation on the battlefield.
The son of the dead Chadian leader has
been named as the new interim head of state.
