CAN frowns at provocative advert by Sterling bank

The Christian Association of Nigeria leadership has frowned at the ungodly, wicked, insensitive, and deliberately provocative advertisement by  Sterling Bank, where Jesus’ Resurrection was compared to ‘Agege Bread’ amidst Easter celebration.

The group made this statement through a press release signed by the group’s national secretary, Joseph Bade Daramola.

He said  resurrection is not merely important to the historic Christian faith and without it, there will be no Christianity.

The group added that this singular doctrine elevates Christianity above all other world religion.

They also called  for the Immediate removal of the Chief Executive Of Sterling Bank, Mr. Abunakar Suleiman with his management whose action have clearly shown their hostility and hatred for the Christian faith.

While waiting for the sanction from the Advertising Practitioner Council of Nigeria APCON.

The group further explained that the resurrection of Jesus witnessed  immense power of God.

“To believe in the resurrection is to believe in God. Only he who created life can resurrect it after death and reverse the mystery that is death itself and gain victory over grave”. (1 Corinthians 15:54-55). And through Jesus resurrection from grave God reminds us of his absolute sovereignty over life and death, said CAN group.”

“The death of Jesus Christ on the cross  confirmed that God accepted Christ’s sacrifice for sin on the cross, and gives us access to a right relationship with him.

While the Empty tomb shows the supremacy of Jesus”.

 ” He is no longer here, he is risen” and that is what we celebrate in Easter, and if you go to the grave of any religious founder their carsasses are still there.”

CAN further added that  for sterling bank to compare Jesus resirection  with a loaf of bread is blasphemous, and insensitive to religion embraced by billions of people globally.

“The advertisement is provocative but we will refuse to be provoked,  not only because it not in our character but because it came from an uninformed mind of neither of the two leading religions in the country”.

He  called on all Christians not to take law into their hands in seeking redress but should let relevant authority to handle the matter.
