The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a farmer-herdercommittee to address clashes between farmers and herders across the state.Speaking during the inauguration in Port Harcourt on Thursday, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ibibia Worika, explained that though agriculture remained a cornerstone of Nigeria’s economy, conflicts within the sector, especially among farmers and herders, had resulted in loss of lives, displacement, and disruption of economic activities. The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, is currently meeting with the protesting retired police officers in Abuja. The meeting is taking place at the peacekeeping hall, Force Headquarters in Abuja. The Senate has asked Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to stay away from its proceedings, saying the suspended lawmaker can’t resume yet. In a statement on Sunday, Senate spokesman Yemi Adaramodu insisted that there was no subsisting court order mandating the Senate to recall the lawmaker before the expiration of her suspension.
