The industrial action embarked upon by the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has been called off, the Minister of Health, Ali Pate, has said. Speaking to journalists after a closed-door meeting on Friday, Pate said the decision followed agreements reached with the leadership of the nursing association. The Independent National Electoral Commission has said that the 2025 Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will begin nationwide on August 18. The agency said online pre-registration of voters would open on August 18 through its official portal, cvr.inecnigeria.org. It stated that in-person registration would begin a week later, on August 25. This, it said, would be held nationwide at all its local government area offices and designated registration centres. Let us not deceive ourselves there will be nothing like state creation throughout the tenure of this administration. Nigeria’s current economic realities make such a venture impossible. While the idea of creating new states appeals to some regions seeking equity and development, state creation requires more than just public sentiment. It demands financial readiness, constitutional adherence, and broad political consensus none of which are present at this time. From a financial perspective, the country is grappling with significant challenges.
