The Zonal Chairman All Progressive Congress, Niger South Senatorial District, Niger state, Hon.Umar Zakariyau Rabba, has called on the Senatorial District Collation Officer, INEC, Niger South Senatorial District, to comply with the provisions of sections 26 and 53 of the electoral act and halt the declaration of result.
He said the request for compliance is with the provision of sections 26 and 53 of the electoral act 2022.
“I wish to draw your attention to the principle of margin of lead contained in sections 26 and 53 of the electoral act 2022( as amended).
The section requires that no winner shall be declared if the margin of victory between the 2 parties with the highest number of votes is less than the number of cancelled votes.
He said the votes in numerous polling units across the local government areas in Niger South Senatorial Districts were established to be cancelled as a result of some irregularities.
“Consequently, going by the result collated from the Local Government Area. It is expected that the total number of cancelled votes from these affected units will be greater than the margin of victory between the two parties with the highest number of votes in the general elections for the Senate, which is APC and PDP”, he said.
