Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Linus Nkan has revealed that with the signing into law of the 2020 Budget by Governor Udom Emmanuel, Akwa Ibom State Government is set to undertake more people-oriented projects to better the lots of Akwaibomites from January 1, 2020.
The Finance Boss made this known on Wednesday while fielding questions from the Press at the Hilton Mansion in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
He explained that Akwa Ibom State is the first state to sign the 2020 appropriation bill into law and that the state government has returned to the normal budget implementation per fiscal year starting from January 1st to December 31st, 2020.
Nkan, who further affirmed the readiness of the Udom Emmanuel-led administration to be focused, transparent and committed to the industrialization of the state, thanked His Excellency, The Governor, for his supervisory role in the preparation of the budget.
He also extended his appreciation to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly for their thorough job, support and dedication to ensuring that the budget was not delayed.
Mr. Linus Nkan said the size of the 2020 Budget estimate is less than that of 2019, reasons being that the State Government decided to be more realistic considering the availability of funds.
The budget estimate sent by the Governor to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly was Five Hundred and Ninety-Seven Billion, Eight Hundred Million Naira (N597,800,000,000.00).
“After due consultations and considerations, a total of Sixty Five Million Naira (N65,000,000.00) was reduced from the budget, leaving us with Five Hundred and Ninety-Seven Billion, Seven Hundred and Thirty-Five Million Naira (597,735,000,000.00) being the 2020 Budget estimate that the Governor signed into law today.” He said.
“Over Three Hundred and Sixty Nine Billion Naira (N369,000,000.000.00 ) will go in for Capital Expenditure while One Hundred and Eleven Billion Naira (N111,000,000,000.00) is fixed for Recurrent Expenditure.”
“Government plans to pay attention to infrastructural development as it is focused on Industrialization which will really help in running the economy at a smooth level.” He added.
The Finance Commissioner also congratulated His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel on the affirmation of his victory by the Supreme Court stating that it is a true confirmation that Only God gave Udom Emmanuel the Divine Mandate through the people of Akwa Ibom, and therefore he was sure that the Supreme God will once again show himself at the Supreme Court in favor of Mr. Udom Emmanuel.
Nkan also extended his appreciation to the Akwa Ibom people for their support to Udom Emmanuel and the PDP, saying that now that the litigations are over, they should expect an unhindered and speedy development of the state.
