The Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris said accountability and transparency should be a major factor for prudent financial management in the country, which is critical for economic growth and development.
He made the disclosure at the third National Treasury workshop in Kano state.
The Accountant General of the Federation said the theme of the workshop tagged” accountability and transparency as catalyst to economic recovery : the role of the treasury and other stakeholders, is critical at this point in time in the country.
He explained that there is need to identify the challenges in accountability and transparency in daily affairs in the management of public funds.
“There is need to improve the independent revenue based profile of government. We need to proffer revenue diversification for the government at all levels.
It will also cut the cost of governance in the most acceptable way.”
In the same vein, Idris disclosed that the National Treasury workshop has become a veritable tool providing the needed platform for sharing quality information and knowledge that helps to keep us abreast with public financial management reforms that can strengthen individual and collective capacities .
He further commended the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, the Executive Chairman of ICPC, and EFCC for making the event a grand one through their presence.
