AGF Lauds FG`s Financial Reforms in ensuring Accountability and Transparency
The Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Alh. Ahmed Idris has lauded the initiative of the Federal Government over the efficiency of financial reforms which has helped in actualizing financial accountability and transparency in the Public Finance Management of Nigeria.
The AGF while speaking in Abuja on Thursday at the 2019 OAGF Peer Review Visit by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita and her team noted that public finance reform initiatives by the Government has helped in actualizing accountability and transparency, while reducing corruption and exposing influx of ghost workers` in the system.
According to Idris, the reform initiatives which include the Treasury Single Account (TSA), Integrated Personnel Payroll Information Systems (IPPIS) and Asset Tracking Management Project (ATMP) among others has been beneficial to the implementation plan for the 2017-2020 and the actualization of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) of the Federal Government.
Speaking on the Peer Review Initiative which aims at sharing ideas and experiences among Ministries, Departments and Agencies with a view to improving service delivery, Idris stated that the review mechanism has proven to be the best means of comparative self assessment by entities having common goals on a mutually agreed standard criteria and also a means through which organizations identify common challenges and map out best strategy to surmount them.
“The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation is now fully digitalized with all functions hinging on Information Technology and Infrastructure “it is instructive to note that the entire Treasury Staff, Particularly those driving Public Finance Reforms Initiatives are ICT literate and Compliant”.
Responding, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita said the Service believes in partnership, innovation and ICT development and compliance especially as seen in the Implementation of the IPPIS Programme .
Similarly, Oyo-Ita noted that the finance reforms initiatives if fully implemented can help the federal government save more funds.
“The savings we are going to get when we fully implement the IPPIS will be mind blowing, if all civil servants are enrolled on the platform” she said.
Meanwhile, she applauded the OAGF on its achievements and success as it has contributed immensely to the accountability of this administration and also reiterated her commitment toward making sure civil servants are well taken care of.
